FORE:Landor came in a few weeks later. He had had an indecisive skirmish in New Mexico with certain bucks who had incurred the displeasure of the paternal government by killing and eating their horses, to the glory of their gods and ancestors, and thereafter working off their enthusiasm by a few excursions beyond the confines of the reservation, with intent to murder and destroy.
FORE:Jeff did not change a muscle of his face.
THREE:Cairness clasped his hands about one knee and bent back, looking up at the stars,and far beyond them into the infinity of that Cause of which they and he and all the perplexing problems were but the mere effects. And I have had no price to pay" he stopped short, the ring of conviction cut off, as the sound of a bell is when a hand is laid upon it. THREE:Acting as a ground crew, Dick righted the craft by thrusting up the wing which was evidently not seriously damaged, while Sandy, as the motor went into its full-throated drone, shook the tail to lift the skid out of the clogging sand. His eyes shielded from the sand, blasted back by the propeller wash, he leaped sidewise and backward as the elevators lifted the tail and the amphibian shook itself in its forward lunge, lifted, flew within two inches of the sand, and then began to roar skyward.
